Resolutions

Goodbye 2012, hello 2013! At Gather Together, we have neatly packaged up the year (we are organized gals) and tagged it as a wonderful success! With another year of planning and design under our belts, we are ready to spring into action in 2013. After a glass of bubbles and much reflection, we have cultivated some personal and professional New Year's goals.

Professional: "An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail." -Edwin Land (founder of Polaroid). The only way to grow Gather Together creatively and professionally is to take risks, without fear of failure. So I guess you could say, my resolution is to take more risks. Not risky as in "I don't have a rain plan, but gee, I hope it's sunny." More like, "Chalkboard horse sculpture? Sure, that can be wedding decor. Let's make it happen."

Personal: "Live with intention." Why am I looking at Facebook so much, perfectly formatting this spreadsheet, or obsessively editing this email? Usually, the answer is: no reason. Or to avoid making a decision. So instead, this year, I plan to live with intention. When I catch myself doing something that doesn't matter, I will snap out of it and do something that does. I recently bought a large desk note pad from the Emily Ley shop that has this quote on it. There's my reminder!

First, a thank-you: A little over a year ago, I had the privilege of working my first wedding with Gather Together as an assistant to the brilliant Chelsey Morrison. She could have picked someone with more experience or a degree more related to this line of work, but she gave me a shot after seeing my strong passion to work weddings and events. I just want to take this opportunity to tell her thank you for letting me be a part of Gather Together.
Mariah, you have wonderful talent and work ethic and are so valued on the Gather Together team! Thank you for all you do! - Chelsey

Professional: At the start of the year, I usually try to make large resolutions that tend to be forgotten after a few weeks. This year, I'm working on small tangible goals. When not assisting with weddings, I attend college. My professional goal is to keep balancing work, school, and the demands of being a busy mom and wife. I look forward to another successful year with Gather Together and best wishes to you all in 2013.

Personal: Like so many, I have some extra pounds to lose. I've started so far with a list of small changes to make that I feel are achievable and that pertain to diet and exercise.

Professional: "Revel in small victories." Working in the wedding & events industry is truly exciting. We work with incredibly talented people that have amazing vision and ideas. With that said, it can be a bit overwhelming if you compare and contrast yourself with others in the industry. My goal is to focus on my strengths and weaknesses and be content with my everyday accomplishments, but work on skills that need to be sharpened.
Samantha, your contributions to Gather Together are invaluable! I seriously could not do it without you. Thank you so much for the talent and success you bring! - Chelsey

Personal: "Travel, travel, travel." In my college years, I took every opportunity to study abroad and country-jumped like I was going from Chapel Hill to Raleigh to Durham. I was fortunate enough to experience so many cultures. As a "grown up," I have had to cut back on my international travel. This year, I plan to enjoy short jaunts to US cities and plan a larger trip to South America (you better Belize it!). With a manfriend* with a shiny new passport, we are ready for fun, sun, and exploration!
*Manfriend = boyfriend in his 30's. He is a man, people!

With our goals set, we are thrilled to be welcoming 2013 with so many incredible clients in the next several months! It will truly be a treat to work with these couples and design weddings that are unique to them.

Cheers to our 2013 couples!

'Til we Gather Together again...
- Samantha
